MAN v FAT Regional Tournaments: North Round-Up

The battle to make it to St George’s Park got underway on Saturday 11th  June as the first MAN v FAT Regional Tournament took place at Scarborough Athletic’s Flamingo Land Stadium.

The event was the first of four Regional Tournaments as the MAN v FAT community comes together for the biggest tournament structure to date.

On a sunny day in Scarborough, 19 teams came ready and eager to make their impression on the tournament, keen to get their hands on the golden tickets that would qualify them for participation at Finals Day at the home of the England national team in September.

Some well contested matches were to take place during the course of the day and it was the North East region who would head home happy, with North Tyneside and Shildon’s Fat & Furious earning the two qualifying spots in Group B.

Group A was the closest of the day’s five groups, with only goal difference separating the teams involved. Sheffield’s Kebaberdeen and Wigan Fatletics made it over the finishing line, knowing that an equally tough test will follow in the Autumn.

After a break, the afternoon’s teams took to the pitch. Again, it was a good session for North Eastern teams, with Durham Bakers, Durham Blues and Powney FC progressing by winning their respective groups. Durham Bakers and Powney Blues sent out a warning sign to other teams hoping to win at St George’s Park by winning all of their games without conceding a goal!

Previous winners Stokoe Goblins made it through in second place in Group A in the afternoon, whilst MvF Bolton and Hull Reds completed the qualifiers from the Scarborough tournament.

Next up, the MAN v FAT Tournament bandwagon heads to Slough for the South East tournament. With 37 teams participating, it’s going to be a competitive day’s football!
