Lockdown #2: MAN v FAT and furlough
2020, what a year. Remember back in 2019 when we were all excited to see what the new year would bring? Did you set new year’s resolutions and excitedly make plans for the year? I know I did, but then 2020 did a big LOL in all of our faces. Now we’re one day into another lockdown (Scotland and Wales should be enjoying less restrictive measures soon, hopefully), and it’s all a bit Groundhog Day.
The MAN v FAT HQ team will be on furlough from today as our MAN v FAT Football leagues shut for the duration of lockdown. As you can imagine, MAN v FAT Football is our main source of income, our (low-cal) bread and butter, and so we’re aiming to preserve things so that we can come back fighting fit when lockdown lifts and we’re allowed to get back on the pitch.
So if you need to get in touch with us, please be aware that we’re all on furlough and not working. Our Player Support Team will be running with a skeleton staff and will only be able to deal with urgent queries, and even then you should know that it might take a while for them to get back to you.
In the meantime, MAN v FAT Football members have free access to The Other Room, a virtual gym, and Silvercloud, an online mental health platform that uses cognitive behavioural therapy to help you manage things like depression, anxiety and stress. If you’re a MAN v FAT Football player, check your emails or have a look in your MAN v FAT Football WhatsApp groups for all the info you need on how to use them.
You can also sign up for MAN v FAT CHALLENGE, our innovative online-only weight loss platform, where we’ve used what we know works well from MAN v FAT Football (the team spirit, competitiveness) to create an enjoyable way of losing weight with likeminded men, just without the football.
But more than anything – don’t lose hope. Lockdown is tough and if you’re trying to lose weight it’s easy to fall back into old habits, but it’s important to keep yourself accountable. Make a plan to eat well and stay active. Look after your mental health. Keep in touch with family and friends. Make time to do something you enjoy. If this is The New Normal (sorry, I hate that phrase just as much as you do) then we’ve got to find ways to carry on improving our health, even if it is now socially distanced and mainly from the comfort of our own homes.
You can do it! We’ll be back as soon as we can.
See you soon,
MAN v FAT
